Most common life mistakes:

  • hurtling with reckless abandon

My phone’s battery has been draining even tho it’s plugged in………. But also at one point I restarted it and it went from 19% to 44% so idk what the fucks going on

Fun fact, did y'all know that nobody spoke about The Economy™ until the 1920s or so?

When it's released in the depression, this wonky statistic becomes an overnight sensation. A report on national income submitted to Congress becomes a bestselling book.. And pretty soon, you can't turn on the radio without hearing those numbers and what they're measuring.

In the decades that follow, national income becomes gross national product and eventually GDP — and it sweeps the world. "The first thing you do in 1950s and '60s if you're a new nation is you open a national airline, you create a national army, and you start measuring GDP," Karabell says.

You need to calculate GDP because if you want help from the World Bank or the United Nations, they're going want to know: What does their help do for your country's economy?

It's somewhere around this time, Karabell says, that people start to make too much of GDP. Rather than a limited measure of the economy, it becomes this Cold War gauge of who's doing better, who's winning. And, so, perhaps inevitably, all that success leads to a backlash.

In one of the most famous moments of that backlash, Robert Kennedy enumerated the shortcomings of what was then known as Gross National Product.

"Gross National Product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play," he said. "It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate, or the integrity of our public officials."

how many times does it have to happen before people connect the dots that police murder people who are inconvenient to them?

so many activists from popular sites, especially Ferguson in the recent past, are coming up dead. when they killed Sadie Roberts-Joseph, the founder of Baton Rouge African-American History Museum, there was so much outrage they pinned it on an “angry former tenant” who just happened to be a rough looking dark-skinned Black man. when they find people shot in their cars and burned to death, it’s a mystery that cannot be solved.

these are absolutely assassinations and it’s so enraging that people have somehow gone from seeing how the government aided the murder of MLK Jr., the assassinations of the likes of Huey P. Newton, and are now so trusting that that isn’t happening anymore.

absolute foolishness, willful ignorance, you don’t want to believe you live in a police state because then you have to unthink all your “uwu not all cops” bullshit and look at the system for what it is. an arm of white supremacy and capitalist protection.

cops are rabid guard dogs and nothing more.

The most infuriating part of my job at a dollar plus store is when ppl get mad we sell things up to $4. Like firstly I have nothing to do with that, secondly we’re in Canada and our currency is worth nothing, thirdly only things that involve a lot of material or that are a lot higher quality/brand name are that price point…. Fourthly I would love to give you an economics 101 course on how inflation works cause u clearly don’t know but I’ve got to help this next customer.
